I work with individuals with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and loss. I also work with individuals who are dealing with difficult life transitions (divorce, loss, job uncertainty), or who are trying to increase a sense of meaning or connectedness in their life. My approach is ‘integrative’ in nature, in that I have training in both directive (e.g., cognitive behavioral) and less directive approaches to psychotherapy (e.g., psychodynamic and control mastery). Overall, my approach to individual therapy is to make sure that I am a good ‘fit’ with my clients, so I work to meet the needs of each individual.

My approach to couple psychotherapy aligns with Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT has the strongest research evidence of effectiveness of any approach to couples work. Therapists in this approach help couples recognize and alter dysfunctional relational or communication patterns . EFT therapists work to help both individuals understand their specific role in dysfunctional communication cycles so that they can slow down their interactions and meet their partner in a more open and vulnerable way.
